DAVE'S PICK OF THE WEEK

"My pick this week is yellow capsicums. Originally from Central and South America, they are now grown across the world. They are very high in vitamin C and also contain vitamin B6, potassium and antioxidants.

They are normally dearer than the green or red options. A small window of opportunity will see yellow caps at around the same price or less than the other colours, in all Harris Farm stores this week. They won't stay as cheap for long."

DAVE'S MARKET UPDATE

In Veg

"Another good week for winter veg this week. The two new items on the HFM offer are yellow capsicums and imperfect tomatoes. The imperfect tomatoes are close to half the price of our premium offer and to be truthful, there is very little difference between these and our premium offer, except of course the price. The yellow caps are outstanding in both quality and price. I will be stocking up on both these lines.

As well, we have very good size premium cauliflowers, there are plenty of cheaper but smaller caulies on offer this week, we will stick with the premiums. Mushies are reasonable perhaps even cheap again and there is still lots of broccolini, bagged carrots and Brussels sprouts on offer this week.”

In Fruit

“No great change this week. Again citrus is superb. The navels are sweet, all the mandos are juicy and all is well in the citrus world. Apples and kiwi (especially the gold) are fantastic.

Best news is seedless watermelon. This will be available at 99 cents per kilo whole, and if you consider that someone has to grow it, pick it and send on a truck to Sydney, that is an amazing price, enjoy!
