Pick of the Week - Cauliflower

Pick of the week cauliflower

Cauliflowers are my pick of the week. Part of the Brassica family, they are a cruciferous vegetable along with broccoli, Brussels sprouts and cabbage plus a dozen or so other vegetables. It appears that the health benefits of this family of vegetables are amazing. I am not in any way qualified to talk about antioxidants and cancer, but if you read the opinions and research on these vegetables from various sources one can't help but think these must be good for you. Caulies have been really dear lately but this week have halved in price as various growing areas across the country all are harvesting at the same time. So at the moment we have Caulies from Qld, Central NSW, and Victoria. Fabulous raw or cooked I would say that historically Australians have overlooked this product and somewhat spoiled the flavour in the process.

HOW TO PICK
Choose cauliflower with tight, creamy white florets.

HOW TO STORE
Store unwashed in a plastic bag in the drawer of your refrigerator for 3-4 days.
