This week, white peaches from Swan Hill tastes fantastic and has excellent value. They are very sweet, juicy and are definitely a must on this week's shopping list. Another good news for fruit lovers is the start of an old favourite... golden queen peaches! Expect to see more of them in the coming weeks.
Delicious seedless watermelons are also rolling into the market from Cowra and Griffith in the Riverina. Enjoying them is a sure way to beat the summer heat. Finally, this is the time of the year that the better grapes start. I am not sure what causes this but in the industry the flavour of the Southern grapes is much preferred over the Queensland grapes that precede the Southern fruit. The two main varieties of white grapes grown in quantity are the Menindee seedless followed by Thompson seedless. There are many other seedless white grape varieties but none as popular as these two. IN VEGETABLE
Extreme temperatures in the major growing areas have caused havoc with many of the vegetable lines this week. Leafy vegetable lines in particular have been adversely affected and will have a limited shelf life so try and keep purchases close to the excepted time of use. On the bright side, we have Tasmanian carrots now available and the quality is just fantastic. There are also heaps of local and Victorian sweet corn... same goes with eggplants. Lastly, we can still enjoy a tomato feast with the continued abundance of all tomatoes (especially the snacking varieties).
