Dave's Market Update 13.10.15

IN FRUIT

Not much happening in fruit this week, all the action is in vegetables. Papaya, strawberries and oranges are all well supplied and reasonably priced. The bargain of the week is definitely blueberries which are oversupplied in the market. The problem this brings is that available stocks don’t clear and the carryover stock ends up lowering the general quality available. We are on top of this with our farmers but some retailers are not. As predicted there is a gap in supply with territory mangoes, however this will be shortlived and the situation reversed in ten days or so.

IN VEGETABLE

In vegetables we are seeing the normal flush of very good quality local and interstate bunch lines. So bunch beetroot, kale, dutch carrots, spinach and English spinach are all cheap and good. There are plenty of good tomatoes, asparagus and a real glut of new spring crop broccoli from Victoria. Peas, cauliflowers, beans of every description are all excellent quality and attractively priced. Iceberg lettuce is a little dearer but there are plenty of good cos lettuce to substitute for this product. So tons of great vegies this week.
