Dave's Market Update 22.08.2014

IN FRUIT

Bananas from North Queensland are in strong supply. The combination of two full moons last month with the warmer spring temperatures has seen strong numbers of bananas come to market. Fruit quality is improving every week, with the spring crop being generally accepted as one of the better eating bananas due to the extra hang time on the tree during the winter months. Western Australian Hass avocado season is gaining some momentum with quality being excellent. In my opinion they are the most flavoursome avocado we produce with the strong creamy texture and nutty taste that we come to love in our fruit.

IN VEGETABLE

The Australian Asparagus season is in full swing – with good volumes and magnificent quality. Our Australian asparagus are packed with flavor and are welcomed after the imported season. As temperatures warm up, the Sydney basin growing region kicks in. Kale, rhubarb, English spinach, silver beet, Dutch carrots, snow peas, sugar snaps, Asian vegetables, red radish, shallots and beetroot are in good supply and eat tremendous. Leb cues are also primarily from Sydney basin and available in strong numbers. Many of the new crops are kicking in so quality will be very good and the flavor with have come to enjoy.
