IN FRUIT
Queensland strawberries are in good supply, with eating quality improving all the time. New season Packham pears are still delicious at this time of year as is paw paw. Australian red seedless grapes are plentiful and are excellent both quality and price.
IN VEGETABLE
Red capsicums and washed chat potatoes are the standouts this week at Harris Farm Markets. Red Capsicums freshly ripened off the vine in Australia’s winter food bowl Bowen, North Queensland are in abundance at stores and fantastic value. Washed chat potatoes sourced from Virginia (SA) are back and at a great price having recovered from the summer heatwave in South Australia. The quality is amazing and great winter eating. My pick in tomatoes this week are gourmet tomatoes from Bowen, which produces some of the best tomatoes in the country. Other good vegetables on offer this week include broccoli, lettuce, cos lettuce, cauliflowers, Chinese cabbage, eggplant, brussel sprouts, green capsicum, rhubarb, English spinach, kale and pumpkins.
