Dave's Market Update 29.09.15

IN FRUIT

It’s a real summer type week coming up this week and we have the fruit to go with the weather. First and foremost MANGOES. This is the first real flush of those wonderful Northern Territory mangoes. Right on cue for the long weekend and the footy finals. This week we have fantastic specials, we have buckets and we have our famous tray sale bargains of fantastic flavoursome ripe Territory mangoes. This is the main flush from Darwin and surrounds, then there will be slight gap until Katherine starts. My advice is to buy a few extra this week, I suspect you will pay a little more next week. Other bargains are to be found in all mandarins and I think September is probably the best month of all for really sweet navel oranges. All the berries, imported grapes and Papaya all make this a great week for fruit. Go the cowboys!

IN VEGETABLE

In a real sign that Spring is with us, we are seeing the first flush of most of our tomatoes apart from the staple gourmet lines. Truss and most of the snacking or punnet lines are far cheaper this week than they have been. Lebanese and telegraph cues remain very good value, and that fabulous Aussie asparagus continues to delight. If you have not tried it, lightly barbequed asparagus is fantastic, add a sprinkle of parmesan, it’s a real treat. Also, more and cheaper broccolini and zucchinis this week. A great addition to your long weekend salads are our twin pack cos lettuce. This is absolutely the best time of the year for these. Perfect for dips or in salads and a great price this week at our stores.
