IN FRUIT
It is still a great week for berries this week with lots of good strawberries and blueberries still dominating the category. Raspberries are still very well priced for this time of the year and we are seeing the very first mulberries for the season in our stores this week. Enjoy the strawberries as we are seeing the first signs of the end to the fantastic Queensland strawberries with some of the more northern farms and inferior brands starting to deteriorate. Western Australia is still a couple of weeks away from any real volumes, at this stage they can only really supply their local market. Packham pears are now eating very well and are reasonably priced. We say goodbye to imperial mandarins this week and we will have some very good Afourer and Honey Murcott mandarins to take their place. The Murcotts are now very good though before this they were somewhat immature as some shortsighted growers went in too early to harvest because of the huge money on offer from exporters. Finally most tomatoes look like easing in price this week.
IN VEGETABLE
Best news this week on the vegetable front will be beans where some really excellent quality produce will be in our stores at far lower prices than last week. Peas, snow peas and corn will all be a little cheaper also but not as great a price fall as with beans. Carrots and Chinese cabbage are also very good value and we have a one off extremely good value special with brushed potatoes this week. At this price and quality everyone should buy. Some more warm days like last Saturday will see produce increase in supply quite dramatically and as always this will be followed by lower prices.
