IN FRUIT
It is an interesting time of the year when a change of seasons brings changes in fruit. First and foremost, we have the first of our new season apples - the Gala. A really popular piece of fruit, they’re ideal for your kids lunchboxes. We will be phasing out the old apples this week - probably Granny Smiths will still be around, but all the others will be over for a couple of months. Another interesting change is that limes will be far cheaper than lemons for a short time. Limes are prolific at this time of year and by comparison, a kilogram of limes works out at about half the price of the equivalent kilogram of lemons. All our lemons from this week on will be Australian as the QLD crops get underway. Honey Gold mangoes are now at their absolute best. They are a wonderful piece of fruit, the only mango that compares, and compares very favourably with the good old Kensington Pride. Cherries will be quite dear this week. Our export commitments for Chinese New Year make this a difficult week. New season Williams pears have started - probably a little green and slow to ripen, they will get better every week. Avocadoes are still very dear but increased supplies of lychees and rockmelons will see these lines easing in price.
IN VEGETABLE
At last after 6 very dear weeks, we will see tomatoes begin to ease in price. Most vegetables are about the same as last week but corn is easier to buy and we have another of our great Kestrel potatoes specials this week. Squash and zucchini are cheaper than they have been so as always, there are many bargains to be had.
