IN FRUIT
There's very little change happening this week. The positives are blueberries that are now fantastic eating are retreating in price and the supply of mangoes is starting to ramp up. This month all the mangoes come from Darwin and the near surrounds. They are nice but not as nice as the mangoes that start from Katherine in early October. However I think there is a very well priced option for a short time currently at our stores, the TPP mango. It is very distinguishable by its elongated shape and I think the sweetest of the early mangoes. The bonus is that as most consumers are not familiar with this fruit they tend to shy away from it so the price is cheaper than the KPs now on sale.
IN VEGETABLE
Spring time means great local vegies, the Sydney basin comes into its own at this time with our products loving the somewhat warmer weather as opposed to the blistering heat that comes a bit later on. Most local growers don’t have the cooling equipment to deal with that weather. So kale, English spinach, snow peas and honey snap peas (also known as sugar snap) are all fresh and inexpensive as long as we don’t get either heavy rain (looks unlikely) or an unseasonally hot spell. All the other bunch lines also will be great quality and generally cheaper as the great spring weather continues. The only lines that are not great is the traditional winter veg, parsnips swedes etc. Globe artichokes are fast coming down in price and I thoroughly recommend you give them a try.
