IN FRUIT
Peaches and nectarines are still quite good and dramas with China has led to a fair amount of fruit reverting to the local market instead of going overseas. This will see some cheap prices over the next week but there will also be some very poor quality in some retail outlets. Our biggest problem is with storms in Victoria ruining berries for this week. Best option here will be blueberries specially from Tasmania. Mangoes are coming to an end as are lychees and cherries. In grapes I am recommending sultanas as the best value of the week. Lots of galas and figs available and in avocados the season is drawing to a close and I am recommending the big round Reeds as the best value option. My plum of the week is the sugar plum.
IN VEGETABLE
There are a few more vegetables on offer this week and we hope these will help to meet the budget this week. First we have very good quality Desiree potatoes on special in all our stores this week. These are a very versatile quality potato. I suggest you should buy extra, the price is great and they will keep. Good value is to be found in salad lines such as cucumbers, lettuce and tomatoes. Beans, corn broccoli and capsicums are all cheaper than last week. Kumara and sweet potato are easing in price and pre-pack carrots are in good supply. Local bunch lines and herbs are still struggling with hot weather and humidity.
