IN FRUIT
In the berry category it's hard to go past blueberries again, however mulberries are also really starting to eat well too. The imperfect picks campaign continues to roll forward with the highlights this week being granny smith apples and hass avocados. The granny smith apples from Shepparton in Victoria are slightly oversized with a touch of sunburn- still crunchy and perfectly good to eat or cook . Hass avocados are from Western Australia and are misshapen with some wind rub- they are still perfectly creamy and have a great nutty flavour.
IN VEGETABLE
This week's all about some fantastic specials at Harris Farm Markets. Coming primarily from the Sydney basin, our mushrooms are always very well received when we put them on special - and this week's price on both cups and flat mushrooms is only ever seen a handful of times each year. Loose sweet corn from Bowen in North Queensland is also on special at a great price. The quality and value of this deliciously sweet corn simply make it impossible to pass up. In addition, this week heralds the arrival of the spring banana crop with a fantastic back to school special. Prices remained reasonably high after what was a cooler than average North Queensland winter, however with the temperatures now warming up, the volume and quality of these bananas is really coming good. Some other notable mentions this week include Lebanese cucumbers which are back substantially in price this week 2013 and with the spring crops now gaining momentum it signals a drastic improvement in both quality and price. In the tomatoes category the highlight is cocktail cherry tomatoes. Cocktail cherry tomatoes are an extremely flavoursome tomato that compliment any salad perfectly.
