Market Update

IN FRUIT

Nothing really new in fruit lines this week. Interestingly we have received some fresh picked very good quality Reed avocados this week which will of course clash with our new season Shepards, the result of course is that prices will ease as the week goes on... particularly the Reeds. There are some very good eating rockmelons in stores this week, not as big as they have been, but nonetheless extremely good value. All our grapes are at their sweetest now, but personally I am now choosing the crimson seedless over the more popular white seedless grapes. Seedless watermelon continues to be cheap. Passionfruit are sweet, juicy and great to eat, although they don’t look the best. I love to squeeze one over my papaya for breakfast. Still waiting for mandarin season to commence, should be any day now.

IN VEGETABLE

Brocollini is my pick of the week and it is on special at Harris Farm stores across NSW. Given the price of Broccoli it is an excellent option this week in particular. It is sweeter than Broccoli, and it has only been available in Australia for less than twenty years. A bunch is an ideal size for two, so a couple of bunches is ideal for the family. Dutch carrots, onions, Nicola potatoes and all pumpkins are also very good value this week. Nothing is outrageously dear in the world of vegetables but also not a lot is cheap, steady as she goes.
